I played Syrinx at the top of a wooded hill, with a small creek below. I thought of Syrinx, the wood nymph in the Greek myth that inspired Gabriel Mourey’s play and Debussy’s music. Syrinx resided in Arcadia, a region in the Peloponnesus which in Greek mythology was Pan’s pastoral dominion, populated with nymphs and dryads. I didn’t see any nymphs or dryads, just beautiful cardinals and blue jays. And big bumblebees feeding on flowering bushes.
